ABOUT
The Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity are Roman Catholic nuns whose purpose is the glorification of the Most Holy Trinity and elementary education. Founded in 1762 in Rome, the group came to the United States in 1920 and its Motherhouse is set on the glorious grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Euclid, Ohio. The shrine and grotto are replicas of the original shrine in Lourdes, France, where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette. In addition to protecting, maintaining and glorifying the shrine and providing religious services, the Sisters are active in the diocese and the community.
Postulancy
In general, applicants are considered for acceptance after they have been in contact with the community for a sufficient time. This allows the individual and the community time to experience one another. Applicants will become Postulants for a period of one year. During this time, formal classes are begun in preparation for their religious life.
We invite you to join the Sisters in Holy Mass, Divine Worship. Trisagion, Rosary and the opportunity to enjoy time with the Sisters.
These events offered by the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity offer many young women discerning Religious vocations the opportunity to deepen their spiritual life and encounter God's will for their lives.
Novitiate
After approximately a year, the Postulant may request admission to the Novitiate. If the community grants the request, she is accepted as a Novice.
The Novitiate is a two-year period and includes the study of Trinitarian spirituality, prayer, and training for the Apostolate. During the two years, the Novice will experience deepening spiritual formation and on-going and ever deepening involvement of the person in the awareness of the responsibilities and commitment of the religious consecration.
Vows
Temporary Vows
After the Novitiate is completed, the Novice may request permission to make Temporary Vows. The Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity commit themselves to the evangelical counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience. Temporary vows is a 5 year period of continually deepening spiritual formation and commitment to the Order.
Perpetual Vows
After the period of Temporary Vows, the Sister can ask to consecrate herself forever to God by public profession of Perpetual Vows.
The Evangelical Counsels
"...of Chastity, Poverty, and Obedience,
consecrated to God are a divine gift,
a sign and an excellent way of liberating
the heart."
(Constitution Chapter IV, #40)
Poverty
"Poverty, voluntarily embraced, also assumes the qualification of the testimony
of one's love of Christ and the participation in His poverty, as much as He,
who was rich, became poor for us, to enrich us with His poverty. In this spirit,
the Religious, even though she provides for her necesseties through work, she
is to dismiss every excessive preoccupation and rely on the providence of the
Father in Heaven."
~ Trinitarian Constitution, Chapter IV, Article 51
Chasity
Chastity, embraced for the Kingdom of Heaven, is an eminent gift of grace that
unifies a Religious more intimately to Christ and the Church and renders her
heart free in a special manner, so as to inflame it always with more charity
to God and people."
~ Trinitarian Constitution, Chapter IV, Article 43
Obedience
"In the spirit of sincere obedience and mutual respect, the Religious cooperates
with active and responsible obedience in the fulfillment of her duties, in the initiatives
she undertakes and in the execution of orders, placing energies and gifts of nature
and grace at the availability of the community for an effectual there must be no
limits to availability, but must engage to live entirely in the imitation of Christ, who,
moved by the Spirit, fulfilled the will of God in everything."
~ Trinitarian Constitution, Chapter IV, Article 56
IN 1198
John of Matha was inspired to found a community dedicated to the Trinity in order to share the Trinity's love through Redemptive Charity.
John of Matha and Felix of Valois dedicated their lives to raising money for ransom to free Christian slaves during the Crusades. They also worked in hospitals and helped the poor.
John of Matha and the Trinitarians placed their needs under our Heavenly Mother's guidance. They honored her with the title, "Our Lady of Good Remedy." When in need, for whatever reason, especially when in difficulty, invoke the aid of Our Lady of Good Remedy.
DEAR LADY OF GOOD REMEDY, source of unfailing help, thy compassionate heart knows a remedy for every affliction and misery we encounter in life. Help me with thy prayers and intercession to find a remedy for my problems and needs, especially for... (Indicate your special intentions here).
On my part, O loving Mother, I pledge myself to a more intensely Christian lifestyle, to a more careful observance of the laws of God, to be more conscientious in fulfilling the obligations of my state in life, and to strive to be a source of healing in this broken world of ours.
Dear Lady of Good Remedy, be ever present to me, and through thy intercession, may I enjoy health of body and peace of mind, and grow stronger in the faith and in the love of thy Son, Jesus.
Hail, Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of they womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of Good Remedy,
R. That we may deepen our dedication to thy Son, and make the world alive with His Spirit.
On September 8, 1762
Teresa Cucchiari followed her own special call by the Trinity and received the Trinitarian habit. She became the Foundress of the female branch of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity. Teresa and the first two women to join her carried out the charism of the Order, namely, Redemptive Charity. These were of service to women and children living in the small towns of the hills of Avezzano, Italy. Their work was done at the urging of Cardinal Mark Anthony Colonna.
The Cardinal saw the need to help the women and mothers and teach their children about God. This was truly a unique and innovative type of ministry for its time.
Over the years, this ministry included not only catechesis, but developed into caring for children in orphanages, helping the sick, and establishing schools for those who otherwise would not have access to an education.
In 1920
Mother Teresa Franza brought the message and charism of the Trinity to the United States. She was a kind and willing person who chose to promote education for all.
Today, the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity still follow the example of Mother Teresa in Italy, United States, Madagascar, and the Philippines. We share the common call of bringing redemptive love of the Holy Trinity to all. Whatever we do, we do in the Name of the Most Holy Trinity.
